DeadStick Dash support

Let’s get you sorted.

Updated October 27, 2026

DeadStick Dash is a 100% free menu-bar organizer for macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later. This guide covers both the zero-permission Mac App Store edition and direct-download builds.

Getting started (Mac App Store edition)

  1. Open DeadStick Dash and look for the yoke icon in your menu bar. Dash runs as a menu-bar utility without adding a Dock icon.
  2. Hold Command (⌘) and drag any movable menu-bar icon to the left of the DeadStick yoke to tuck it (dropping immediately left of the yoke adopts and tucks it automatically). Keep permanently visible icons to the right of the yoke.
  3. Click the yoke to open the control panel and select Show All in Menu Bar or Hide Tucked in Menu Bar, choose Manual, 10s, or 30s smart auto-hide, or Option-click / right-click the yoke to toggle instant reveal.
  4. Open Settings from the panel footer to toggle menu-bar tucking, choose Launch at Login, or replay the two-step welcome tour.

Common questions

Does the Mac App Store edition ask for Accessibility or Screen Recording?

No. The Mac App Store edition runs entirely inside the macOS App Sandbox with zero system permissions — it never prompts for Accessibility, Screen Recording, Input Monitoring, or network access. Optional Accessibility item lists and optional Screen Recording live pixel previews apply only to separate non-Store direct-download builds.

How do I untuck or keep an icon permanently visible?

Click the yoke and select Show All in Menu Bar (or Option-click the yoke), then hold Command (⌘) and drag the icon to the right of the DeadStick yoke.

What happens on MacBooks with a camera notch?

On notched displays, macOS hides leftmost menu-bar icons behind the camera housing when the menu bar fills up. Selecting Show All in Menu Bar restores Dash’s space; if macOS still hides icons behind the notch, ⌘-drag the ones you use most closer to the right side of the menu bar.

Why can’t I move the clock or Control Center?

macOS manages fixed system items on the far right of the menu bar. Command-drag works with movable menu-bar items.

How do I stop using DeadStick Dash?

Reveal tucked items (quitting Dash also uncollapses the menu bar automatically), turn off Launch at Login in Settings if enabled, and quit Dash. If you used a direct-download build and granted optional Accessibility or Screen Recording access, you can revoke those in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Pricing and updates

DeadStick Dash is 100% free everywhere — both on the Mac App Store and as a notarized direct download on our website — with no subscriptions, in-app purchases, trials, ads, or required account. The Mac App Store edition installs and updates exclusively through Apple’s Mac App Store; direct-download builds update via Sparkle.

Direct website downloads are governed by the DeadStick Digital Terms of Service (and include the open-source Sparkle updater under the MIT License). App Store license information: Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement.

Local data and privacy requests

There is no Dash account to delete. App preferences are stored locally on your Mac (inside the app’s sandbox container for the Mac App Store edition) and may remain after uninstalling. Email us for help removing local settings, or to request deletion of support correspondence you previously sent. Please do not send passwords or private menu-bar contents.

You can quit the app or change Launch at Login in Dash Settings at any time. Direct-download users can also withdraw optional Accessibility or Screen Recording access in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
