DeadStick Dash privacy

Your menu bar stays yours.

Effective October 27, 2026 · Updated October 27, 2026

This policy covers DeadStick Dash for macOS, provided by DeadStick Digital LLC, including both the Mac App Store edition and direct-download builds. Website visits and contact-form submissions are also covered by the DeadStick Digital website privacy policy.

Data accessed locally

Mac App Store edition: runs entirely inside the macOS App Sandbox with zero system permissions. It stores only local app preferences (such as whether menu-bar tucking is enabled, your smart auto-hide timer preset, launch-at-login preference, welcome-tour state, and Dash’s own status-item positions) inside its local container on your Mac, and uses standard menu-bar geometry to expand and tuck space. It never requests Accessibility or Screen Recording permission, never reads other apps’ names or menu contents, never captures screen pixels, and makes zero network connections.

Direct-download builds: store preferences locally on your Mac and, when you grant optional Accessibility permission, read supported menu-bar app names, icons, positions, and status text locally so you can identify, organize, and open those items. Optional live pixel previews are off by default; if you enable them and grant Screen Recording permission in a direct-download build, Dash captures menu-bar item images strictly for local display. Menu-bar inventory, status text, and captured images are never uploaded to DeadStick.

Data we collect and how we use it

Dash has no app account, advertising, analytics SDK, or DeadStick-operated cloud storage for app data. We do not collect or receive your local settings, menu-bar layout, status text, or preview images through the app (App Store Privacy label: Data Not Collected). We do not sell user data or use it for tracking or targeted advertising.

If you email us or submit our website contact form, we receive the contact details, message, and attachments you choose to send. We use them solely to answer your request and troubleshoot the issue. The contact form also processes connection and anti-spam information as described in the website policy. Do not include passwords, security codes, or unredacted private screenshots.

Distribution, updates, and third parties

Mac App Store edition: Apple handles app delivery and updates exclusively through the Mac App Store. Apple may process download, device, store-account, and diagnostic information under Apple’s privacy policy and your Apple settings. The Mac App Store edition does not include Sparkle or any separate DeadStick updater.

Direct-download builds: include the Sparkle update framework. When configured and used, update requests disclose connection information such as your IP address to the update feed or download host and may include app and system versions. Sparkle system-profile reporting is not enabled.

Support and website providers: our email provider, Web3Forms contact-form provider, and website hosts process information needed to receive correspondence and serve the website. They do not receive your local menu-bar data through Dash. Service providers handling user data on our behalf must provide the same or equal protection described in this policy and required by applicable law. We do not share support data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics networks. Disclosures may be required by law or valid legal process.

Retention

Local settings remain on your Mac until removed; uninstalling the app may leave local preferences or sandbox container data behind. Menu-bar state and optional direct-build preview images are processed locally on your Mac and are never stored on a DeadStick server. We retain support correspondence only as long as needed to provide continuing support, resolve the request, or meet legal obligations. Where information must be retained by law, we limit its use to that purpose. Apple and website providers apply their own retention policies to information they process independently.

Your choices, consent, and deletion

  • In the Mac App Store edition, no Privacy & Security permissions are requested; you can toggle menu-bar tucking or Launch at Login in Dash Settings and quit Dash at any time. In direct-download builds, you can also manage or revoke optional Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security and disable live pixel previews in Dash Settings.
  • There is no Dash account and no server-side copy of local app settings for us to delete. For help removing local preferences or container data that remain on your Mac after uninstalling, email us.
  • To request access, correction, or deletion of support correspondence, email [email protected] with the subject “DeadStick Dash privacy request.” Identify the email address used for the original correspondence. We may ask for reasonable verification before acting on private records.
  • We will remove information we control when no longer needed, subject to applicable legal retention requirements. You do not need to install Dash to make a privacy request.
